At the annual meeting of Lancashire County Council on 22 May 2025, Cllr Rick Edwards, who represents the Burscough and Rufford division, was appointed Deputy Chair of the Audit, Risk and Governance Committee. He was re-confirmed in the role at the following year’s annual meeting and continues to hold it today.
Audit and governance is the committee that keeps a council honest. It examines the accounts, tests the systems that are supposed to prevent waste and error, and checks that decisions are taken properly. It is exactly the kind of unglamorous, essential oversight that Reform said it would take seriously in Lancashire.
Having a West Lancashire councillor as Deputy Chair means a local voice in that scrutiny, helping to make sure the county’s money is handled with the care residents are entitled to expect.
